Businesses don’t grow overnight. Every large company you see has faced its share of challenges. That’s why I’m starting this bi-weekly journal to show how we overcome business challenges. Like any business, I expect to encounter obstacles, but it’s how we navigate and overcome these hurdles that define success.
This journal will give you an inside look at how a simple hobby, like writing, can evolve into a thriving business. I’ll be sharing my thoughts, challenges, and the journey of building The Innovative Hobbyist. My goal is to be completely open and honest, hoping to inspire others to persevere and not give up when faced with difficulties. You’ll also get to see how I approach and solve issues, which could be helpful if you’re dealing with similar struggles.
In the past, I started blogs that didn’t succeed because I treated them as hobbies rather than businesses. That’s where I went wrong. If you treat a hobby like a hobby, it’ll stay just that. But if you’re serious about turning it into a business, you have to get the basics right. If you need a hand with that, check out this article: Successfully Turn a Hobby Into a Business.
So, let’s dive into this week’s entry, which will mark the official start of The Innovative Hobbyist.
Ready to Overcome Business Challenges
I’ve always wanted to run a blog. I love writing out my ideas and sharing them with others. My writing started off as screenplays and stories, but over time, I realized my passion lies in informative writing.
I first experimented with blogging on my personal website, alainvega.com. But I quickly realized that using my name might not be the best choice for a future business. That’s how The Innovative Hobbyist came to be.
Coming up with the name was an interesting process. I went through countless ideas, checked their availability, and kept running into roadblocks. But then I thought about my love for hobbies and how I’m always creating and innovating within them. That’s when the name clicked.
After securing the domain names, I designed the site and started writing articles. I kept tweaking my idea of what the blog should be about, but I finally settled on helping others grow or start their businesses from their hobbies.
This week, I took the big step of registering the name as an LLC. Now, we’re officially off to the races. I’m excited to be at this stage and to begin growing the company. My first challenge will likely be meeting my writing deadlines. I’m aiming to write an article and a journal entry every week, but time is not on my side. Between working full-time, going to school, and now flying to another state to get married, my schedule is packed.
At the moment, my only reader is my amazing fiancé (soon-to-be wife). As we grow, I’ll share analytics and ways to monetize the blog. Right now, my focus is on creating as much helpful content as I can.
To show my commitment to helping you grow your business, I’m offering free consultation services. Whether you need help refining your ideas, growing your current business, or just getting started, I’m here to help. Use the contact page to get in touch, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
I’m excited to see what the rest of the year holds and will be back next week to update you on the progress.
